With the Wisdom of Seas and Sky expansion comes a long-awaited change that could finally fix one of Pokemon TCG Pocket’s most frustrating features.
Each of the levels has goals and sub-bosses to fight, but also secret subchallenges to discover — some of them 3D, some 2D side-scrolling. There are other things to find, in every direction, on any potential hillside or surface, if you just pummel your fists and dig. The free-digging usually involves either finding more crystal bananas or various-sized fossils, which can be collected and redeemed for costumes. There’s gold to accumulate, too, which acts as general currency. But even as I rush to the next goal on any level, I’m equally tempted to just start digging around and see what’s going on somewhere else.
He’s the sort of adventuring companion I’d love to have by my side during a long Dungeons & Dragons campaign, and someone my Godlike grows to see as a dependable friend. There are classes and backgrounds to choose from, but all skill trees—fighter, ranger, wizard, and godlike—are available to all classes, and I ended up with a fully blended build without feeling disadvantaged for not specialising. I can’t change the gear used by my companions, but they steadily accrue special attacks I can trigger at any time.
Warriors: Abyss Review: This Hades-inspired Musou Is Stuck In Purgatory
Arrowhead Game Studios’ fun and hilarious shooter was the big breakout hit of the year, quickly enlisting millions of new recruits for its galactic space war. Even though it stumbled with some recent updates, it remains a massively popular game and PlayStation’s big live-service win of the year. For many who stick with one game throughout the years, 2024 has delivered some great expansions. Destiny 2’s newest update, The Final Shape, is a worthwhile finale to Bungie’s long-running shooter, while World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, The War Within, kicks off a new start for Blizzard’s beloved MMORPG.
Enchanted By Nature solidifies its position as one of the best paid DLC releases for the game, as it goes all in on the idea of living your best fantasy life with its vibrant locales and enchanting fairy gameplay. Donkey Kong Bananza might just be the best reason to get a Switch 2, as the lovable musclehead shines in this colorful adventure. The central concept of destruction is perfectly executed, the core gameplay is a blast of fun, and it plays like a highlight reel of Donkey Kong magic. This is a new direction for DK, and a must-play title for all fans of the greatest ape. On top of that, the Switch 2 is expected to be arriving this year and Nintendo typically has a few launch game aces up its sleeve whenever it brings new gaming hardware to its fans. You can also count on indie games to surprise and delight, as some of the best and weirdest games are often found in this category.
Catto’s Post Office is a ridiculously cute game that casts you as a cat with parcels to deliver, but it’s woefully short. Get ready to raise the dead with this turn-based RPG gem. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 brings back the grind with slick upgrades and nostalgic charm, but some changes—especially to Pro Skater 4—might throw longtime fans off balance.
Racing games can generally be played in a variety of ways. While those that love Gran Turismo the most might play it as a simulator, it’s just as easy to experience it as some approximation of Mario Kart, crashing into other vehicles on long bends or swinging onto the grass when necessary. NASCAR ’14 is all about tight lines and clever driving, a fact that makes it both very playable and undoubtedly niche. In a gaming landscape dominated by high-octane action and sprawling open worlds, One Step After Fall dares to slow things down. It’s a quiet, introspective walking simulator that trades combat and puzzles for emotional storytelling and minimalist design.
January 24, 2024 • Final Fantasy 7 is more than an iconic PlayStation game. It’s a multimedia empire embracing novels, short stories, spin-off games — even a movie. February 14, 2024 • The new remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong delivers ace animation and a welcome “casual mode,” but its two-player co-op can be more frustrating than fun. June 12, 2025 • The Switch 2 improves upon the first console in nearly every way.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4
He thinks Lulu by Metallica and Lou Reed is an all-time classic that will receive its due critical reappraisal one day. When I’m not in conversation with someone, that someone forgets that I’m there. Nothing happens in this world unless I’m invited to make it happen or I’m bearing witness to it. This doesn’t make Avowed bad—I loved it—but it’s symptomatic of one area where it falls short compared to its contemporaries, not to mention the first-person Bethesda games it’s clearly modelled on. I can’t attack anyone at will and suffer the consequences (though the narrative stages ample opportunities for me to kill or have mercy). Likewise, while stealth is an option, it’s usually just a means to get an upper hand on a particular foe.
Here are the best upcoming games releases for you to look forward to in 2025, including games for PS5, Xbox Series X
Tales Of The Shire Review: A Disappointing Journey That Lacks Tolkien’s Magic And Cozy Gameplay
Naturally, Goldilocks is right at the center of the action. It’s truly a lovely sight, when the first scenes of The Shire in the Third Age of Middle-earth unfold before your eyes. Green vistas, foxgloves in the field, with sheep adding white dots to the green gently rolling hills. Accompanied with a whimsical tune, we see Gandalf in his cart rolling along the road, while a blue chirping bird swoops in and alerts Gandalf to a Hobbit, sleeping to the side of the road. That is the trigger for you to get busy creating your own character, Hobbit style. After months of testing the newest hardware and software, these are the award winners that stuck with us well after gameplay ended.
The catch is that you need the new Nintendo Switch 2 console to play it. Donkey Kong Bananza won’t work on the original Switch — or on any other gaming device. I was wowed by Bananza during an early preview a few weeks ago, but after a few weeks of play at home, it’s even better.
